Last Call at the Blackbird

A private investigator breaks his one rule for a woman with a story full of holes — and gets pulled into a killer's game.

• Noir detective story set in a rain-soaked city bar
• A missing regular case that unravels a deep conspiracy
• Crooked cops, a lost ledger, and a killer steps ahead

“The Blackbird sat on the wrong end of Delacroix Street, wedged between a shuttered pawn shop and a laundromat that hadn't seen a paying customer since the recession before last, and Dez Halloran had spent enough nights on that particular stretch of sidewalk to know exactly which bars stayed open on regulars and which stayed open on something else entirely. Ronnie Vasquez found him in his usual booth at Fenner's two blocks over, where Dez took meetings he didn't want overheard and drank coffee he pretended wasn't mostly there to justify sitting in a booth for three hours.”
